CX5120 có bộ vi xử lý Intel Atom® lõi đơn với tần số 1.46 GHz. Các giao diện phần cứng trong dòng này được định hướng và triển khai giống hệt với dòng CX5000 hiện có. Hai giao diện Ethernet độc lập hỗ trợ Gigabit, cùng với bốn cổng USB 2.0 và một giao diện DVI-I, đều có sẵn. Nhiều tùy chọn kết nối hoặc chức năng cổng giao tiếp khác được tạo ra nhờ vào giao diện tùy chọn có thể được lắp đặt sẵn tại nhà máy, cũng như cấp độ I/O, có thể chọn giữa các đầu nối E-bus hoặc K-bus.

CX5120 nổi bật với khả năng tiêu thụ năng lượng thấp và thiết kế không quạt.

Tùy thuộc vào môi trường runtime TwinCAT được cài đặt, CX5120 có thể được sử dụng để thực hiện các dự án điều khiển PLC hoặc PLC/kết hợp điều khiển chuyển động, có hoặc không có hiển thị hình ảnh. Việc thực hiện các ứng dụng điều khiển chuyển động với các chuyển động trục nội suy cũng có thể thực hiện được.

Giống như CX5000, dòng CX5100 có thiết kế nhỏ gọn; tuy nhiên, thiết bị này không có khả năng mở rộng mô-đun như dòng CX2000.
